![]() ![]() With over 500 saves on North Shore beach in Honolulu. This proves that Eddie is a hero because he sacrificed his life for others.Įddie's memorial surfing contest ]Eddie is known for being a hero for saving people, being a big wave surfer, and attempting to save 15 people stuck on a boat 15 miles from shore. Eddie was a hero because he died trying to save 15 other people and he died on his 15 mile swim from their destroyed boat back to shore to get help. Eddie sadly died at sea but this helped him become a hero, because people knew that he would risk his life for others. Eddie was the only one that wanted to go out and try to save the crew because he knew that he was the only one that even stood a chance against the harsh waves and conditions in the ocean. Eddie Aikau was never seen again”(Eddie Aikau). “As Eddie rose to the peak of a swell, he again looked back at his crew members and gave a final wave goodbye as he paddled into the distance. As Eddie and his crew were fighting for their lives on their capsized boat, Eddie leaped into the water and headed for shore determined to return with help. Eddie was determined to save his friends but not even he could fight the waves. Eddie gave his life in a attempt to try and save 15 other people, but sadly he died while swimming back and his body was never found. The search for Aikau was the largest air-sea search in Hawaiian history, but sadly, no trace of him was ever found”(Lifeguard Eddie). “As for Eddie Aikau, however, he disappeared into the Pacific. At the time Eddie was surfing monster waves reaching up to 40 foot waves that could take out boats. Within 10 years he had saved over 100 people, and not lost a single life within that time. This quote shows that while Eddie was a lifeguard he put his life in risk countless times to save others and in total he had around 500 saves. “Legendary surfer and lifeguard Eddie Aikau saved hundreds of lives on the beaches of Hawaii in the 1960s and 1970s”(Lifeguard Eddie). The cost of retrofitting hydronic radiant flooring varies depending upon whether there is access to the subfloor and the extent to which flooring and ceilings must be torn out and reinstalled. In the long run, however, it will save money due to lower thermostat settings and higher efficiency. Costs of Radiant Floor Systemsįor new construction, a hydronic radiant floor system is likely to cost more than forced hot air (ducts and registers) or hydronic systems (baseboard radiators). ![]() And while radiant cooling systems will reduce air temperature, dehumidification may also be needed to make occupants feel cool. In addition, the tubing for radiant cooling is best run in the ceiling (not the floor, the better location for heating). A chiller or geothermal heat pump must be used to supply the cold water. ![]() While radiant cooling is possible, it’s typically not cost effective to install. With a conventional forced-air heating system, the same ducts that deliver hot air through ducts from the furnace can be used to introduce cool air from a central air conditioner. The only negative for radiant floor heating is that it’s not so easy to use for cooling. The panels are more expensive than materials used in some other systems, but they are more efficient and reduce the labor costs, too. Warmboard, for example, manufactures 4 x 8 radiant floor panels for new construction and 2 x 4 panels for remodeling that are lined with aluminum sheeting for even heat distribution. Installations have been simplified in recent years with the advent of subflooring that’s pre-fitted with tubing channels. Solar energy is a good heat source for radiant floors because solar thermal collectors are very efficient at supplying the lower water temperatures that such systems require. The growing popularity of solar heating has also caused builders and homeowners to give radiant floor heat a second look. Newer versions of PEX include an oxygen barrier. Tiny amounts of oxygen are able to penetrate the PEX lining, causing corrosion to metal components, such as cast iron boilers. Early on, PEX was not without hiccups as well. With time, the tubing leaked and the systems were abandoned. This was not so with ‘50s- and ‘60s-vintage radiant systems that relied on copper tubing embedded in concrete. The growing popularity of PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) tubing during the past 15 to 20 years has made radiant floors easier to install and leak-free. Batts of fiberglass insulation are installed under the mats so most of the heat goes up, not down. You will, of course, need access to the bays from a basement or crawl space. No mortar is required.ĭon’t want to pull up your existing flooring? Companies such as SunTouch make electric radiant pads that fit in joist bays under the subfloor. Just roll it out, tape it in place, cover with floating-type flooring, and make the electrical connections. One manufacturer, Thermosoft, makes pads that produce 31 BTUs per square foot. There are also radiant electric floor heating pads that can be installed under laminate and other floating floors, such as engineered hardwood. Ceramic or stone tile are popular finished floor choices. The cables, which are often pre-attached to mats for ease of installation, are installed over the subfloor in a bed of thin-set mortar. Electric radiant heating systems are typically supplemental, not meant to be the sole heat source for a room. ![]() ![]() ![]() Beer is Labor with East Brother Beer Co.Let Go or Get Dragged by Jerard Fagerberg.Ferments at Low Temps by Stephanie Byce. It’s tall and thin, which is the usual design of the spiked version of canned beverages, and it’s nice that we all have come to know that, and that it is reflected here. All of them definitely get you feeling drunk very fast, which is potentially the only line this review needed.ĬAN DESIGN: I would say that the can design is adequate. ![]() Though now that I’m drinking more of it, I guess you do kind of get used to it. It’s the CACTI flavor that makes me feel the oldest as it hits my aged tongue. This one tastes like seltzer - and you know how I feel about seltzer - mixed with tequila and hangover strawberry. The Strawberita, a friend and a foe, is a beloved drink among many because it is so sugary that you almost die. STRAWBERRY FLAVOR: It is not this drink’s fault that it appears on the canned alcoholic beverage timeline after the “Strawberita,” but it is something it must reckon with.If Travis Scott were just selling pineapple spiked spiked seltzer the tone of this review might be quite different. PINEAPPLE FLAVOR: Okay, in this case I will say the pineapple flavor is strong enough that my mind perceives it as a cohesive drink rather than seltzer flavor and tequila flavor next to each other. It is a mixer for freshmen in college who only have flavored seltzer in their dorm room and don’t want to go out to get something else because they are scared the RA will see that they are already drunk. This might sound good to you, and if so I’m happy that you’ve found this as a source of joy, but I do not personally believe flavored seltzer is a good mixer. Bitter, weird, tequila as if you poured tequila into a lime LaCroix. You’d think lime flavor would lend itself nicely to blue agave, since that is how it behaves elsewhere, but I have no choice to report that it does not do so here. I wanted to start with a positive comment because I’m not here to be rude. LIME FLAVOR: On the back of your tongue it does taste like lime. Now all we can do is judge it according to the rubrics Scott outlined. But he did not ask for our input and the product has already been made. What is the fault of Travis Scott, however, is that he used seltzer as the base material in his CACTI™ Agave Spiked Seltzer. It is the fault of seltzer’s carbonic acid, which lends it a false and bitter taste, as well as the fault of humanity’s desire to be part of a group, in the case the group of people who “like” seltzer. Bitter and false, artificially carbonated but lacking any joy smug and boastful in the fact that it is not a sugary soda, while betraying the drinker’s obvious suppressed desire for a sugary soda. I want to say first that my problems with Travis Scott’s spiked seltzer stem primarily from the problem I have with seltzer in general, which is that it tastes bad. How does one “review” passion? How does one pass judgement on the driving creative force within an artist which has made manifest something he has wanted to do not just for a short period of time, but for a while? How does one assess the supposed value in a person’s creative output, from the flavor, obviously, to the can design, packaging, and entirety of the brand world? And moreover, how do I, someone who does not even like non-spiked seltzer, and who is likely not within the target age demographic for this product, attempt to critique the corporate American brand output of the person Forbes calls “corporate America’s brand whisperer”? It seems unfair to Travis Scott, to the notion of creativity, and to of course Anheuser-Busch. In this case, I know from a press release that this line of spiked seltzers from Anheuser-Busch is something Travis Scott “had a strong vision for” and “wanted to do for a while.” He says it was important for him to be “heavily involved in the entire creative process from the flavor obviously, to the can design, packaging and the entirety of the brand world we’ve built.” ![]() Now, listen - I know the job of reviewing the merchandise output of famous entertainers seems glamorous, but it can be difficult.
